Student Tips and Tricks - Love it or hate it, education is a big part of everyone's lives.
School, college, university; some of the best, and worst, times of our lives. Growing up, finding ourselves, friends and what we are good at...it's tough!
Here are a couple of tips and tricks to help you get through some of the most unforgettable years of your life.
- Making your lunch every day will save you a fortune!
- Coupons are great! ...But only if you use them before their expiry dates... An easy way to organise them is keeping them in a coupon wallet, (you don't want to lose them) or alternatively, having an envelope in your bag where you collect them all works just as well.
- Register for as many loyalty cards as you can, the more points you collect, the less you will have to spend. Sometimes shops do discount cards too, it's always worth asking.
- Making revision notes and resources as you go along will save you so much stress and time when it comes to finals and exams.
- Using cashback sites such Quidco.com and TopCashback.co.uk is a great way to hold onto those last few pennies.
- Using travel vouchers and offers (such as the Sun's offer for holidays under £10) can save a small fortune. Also if you live in a city then is there a tourist/locals discount card for example the Coast Card on the Yorkshire coast costs only £5 per year and many retailers offer up to a 25% discount for card holders.
- There are often travel clubs/cards you can join/get (for example East Yorkshire travel VIP club). This also applies for bus and train discount cards.
- Cards, cards, cards... I know, so many cards. But they are wonders. English heritage cards can get you into hundreds of English heritage sites all over the country for free! Fun days out that cost next to nothing. Please note, other brands are available in different areas of the world.

- Hairdressing, beauty therapy, male grooming and all things alike. Regular personal grooming treatments can create a large sum of expenses. However, if you live near a college or university where they run these courses then you might be able to get the treatments done cheaper if you let the students practice on you. Side note: this does not apply for any medical treatments because those are definitely better getting done by a professional.
- The above also applies for catering jobs, having a get together and planning on hiring a catering company? Why not check out your local college or university running catering courses, students are always grateful of work experience and will often charge less than professionals.
- Check out local supermarkets for when they sell food stuffs cheap at the end of the day, also do some research about sell by dates, because often products are still useable for days or even weeks after their official sell by date so it's okay to buy some reduced things that are just before turning point.
- When about to make an online purchase (through Quidco of course) don't buy straight away, let it sit in the basket for a day or two then check your emails for discounts the company might have sent you on that product.
- Find out when there are local food/drink festivals near you and you can spend a cheap day tasting and pick up some tasty goods at the same time.
- If you are going for a meal out and you chose to get a dish that is "bottomless" then you could always share between anyone you are going with, it works the same for anything with free refills. But you've got to be a bit sneaky with this one, some places don't like it!
I hope these tips and tricks can be helpful to you. However, watch this space, because I'll be adding more as I find and think of them.
